Genesis 21:6 And Sarah said, God has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

Numbers 14:8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey.

Numbers 24:1. And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

Deuteronomy 10:15 Only the LORD had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.

Psalms 2:4 He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Psalms 51:16 For you desire not sacrifice; else would I give it: you delight not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 18 Do good in your good pleasure unto Zion: build you the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then shall you be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon your altar.

Psalms 59:8. But you, O LORD, shall laugh at them; you shall have all the heathen in derision.

Psalms 69:30. I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that has horns and hoofs.

Psalms 92:4 For you, LORD, have made me glad through your work: I will triumph in the works of your hands.

Psalms 104:31. The glory of the LORD shall endure forever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.

Psalms 113:9 He makes the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD.

Psalms 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he has done whatsoever he has pleased.

Psalms 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD has done great things for them.

Psalms 135:6 Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

Proverbs 10:1. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father*: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

Proverbs 11:1. A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight. 20. They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.

Proverbs 12:22. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Proverbs 15:8. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. 20. A wise son makes a glad father*: but a foolish man despises his mother.

Proverbs 16:7. When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Proverbs 23:15 My son, if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when your lips speak right things. 24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begets a wise child shall have joy of him. 25 Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she that bare you shall rejoice.*

Proverbs 29:3. Whoso loves wisdom rejoices his father: but he that keeps company with harlots spends his substance.*

*[Imagine how our Father rejoices over Jesus, and us as well (at times).]

Song of Solomon 2:14. O my dove, that is in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see your countenance, let me hear your voice; for sweet is your voice, and your countenance is comely. [This is Jesus talking to us, his bride.]

Song of Solomon 3:11 Go forth, O you daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart. [Solomon, as a picture of Jesus, shows the joy that He will have on the day of His marriage to us, His bride.]

Isaiah 35:10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Isaiah 42:1. Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable.

Isaiah 56:4 For thus says the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

Isaiah 60:20 Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.

Isaiah 65:19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

Jeremiah 9:24 But let him that glory glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD which exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, says the LORD.

Jeremiah 32:41 Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

Jeremiah 33:9 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a honor before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.

Often we do not think of God as being happy. The most surprising news to me is that we are the main sources of His joy. Next time we worship and obey God, let's be aware of the pleasure that we are bringing Him. Bringing Him joy and pleasure can motivate us to do good as much as His anger can motivate us to avoid evil. What a privilege for us to be able to alleviate some of God's sadness over the world's tragic state by bringing Him joy.
